The house was designed to be cost effective, this simple cube form is more solid at the entry and opens up to the rear yard. The roof is simple and flat, sloping towards the rear. This simple form is extended at the ground floor along the adjacent property lines to take advantage of existing setback allowances.
The back of the house opens up to the more private zone, a garden and BBQ area. Again as with the entry, the simple cube form is expressed with the roof terminating into a concealed gutter.
A 2000 sq ft house in West Hollywood, recently completed.
The house was designed so that light would permeate from the center circulation spine. The stairs open up the floor to the skylights above.
The purple wall which supports the stair is held away from the ceiling to allow the light from above to spill into the stair and adjacent living room. The stair becomes a steel light tracery as it rises above the purple wall to free up the light from above.
the hallway has a series of continuous skylights; wall to wall, between bedrooms and bathrooms, it has the spacial similarities to that of an atrium. The intermediate landing leads out to a Juliette balcony which, when opened, creates a cross circulation of air to the bathroom behind.
